UPTON,
RESIDENTIAL TOWER
UPTON consists of a 36 storey residential tower with sky garden on top of a podium of shops, two levels of carpark, a clubhouse for the residents with indoor/outdoor swimming pool and podium roof garden. The development is an urban renewal project replacing an existing industrial building with 119 residential units of various sizes and design to cater for different family needs.
The present triangular site of approx. 1,050 sm at Yuen Long On Ning Road is occupied by the existing Yuen Long Home for the Blind.
With the increase in demand of care and attention places for the visually impaired, Hong Kong Society for the Blind commissioned Design Consultants Limited to demolish the existing Yuen Long Home for the blind and redevelop a new home for 160 beds.

While the flow of accommodation was better suited to a low-rise building, the site constraints required a vertical organisation of spaces, resulting in a uniquely Hong Kong design challenge.
